CHSP Extension to 2029: What Providers Need to Know

CHSP funding extension 2029
2 MIN READ

The CHSP extension to 2029 gives older people, workers and providers greater certainty about entry-level support at home. The Australian Government has extended Commonwealth Home Support Program (CHSP) grant funding to 30 June 2029.

However, providers still have important requirements to manage in 2026. In particular, all CHSP clients must have a Service Agreement and a Care and Services Plan in place by 1 November 2026.

Here are three areas providers can review now.

1. Prepare Service Agreements and Care and Services Plans

The 1 November deadline applies to all CHSP clients, including existing clients covered by transitional arrangements.

A Service Agreement should clearly set out the agreed services, client details and contributions. The Care and Services Plan should reflect the support the person needs and receives.

Providers can use the coming weeks to check which records need to be created, reviewed or updated. Clear ownership within the team will also help keep information current when services change.

2. Check the information behind DEX reporting

CHSP Data Exchange (DEX) reporting requirements have changed in stages. These changes include updated service information, My Aged Care ID reporting and additional metrics introduced in August 2026.

Accurate reporting starts with accurate records. Providers should check how client details and delivered services move from day-to-day work into their reporting process. This can help teams spot missing information before it becomes a larger task to correct.

3. Use the CHSP extension to strengthen everyday processes

The CHSP extension to 2029 provides a longer funding horizon. It also gives providers time to review how they manage client information, service changes and reporting across their organisation.

A useful starting point is to ask:

  • Can staff find the latest agreement and plan for each client?
  • Are service changes reflected in client records?
  • Is the information needed for DEX reporting captured consistently?
  • Does each team member know who is responsible for updates?

These are practical questions for today, whatever the longer-term design of CHSP becomes.

Clear information supports better care

Good records do more than support reporting. They help teams understand what has been agreed, what services are being delivered and when something has changed.

Brevity brings client, service and reporting information together to help CHSP providers manage this work with greater clarity. As providers prepare for the 1 November deadline, now is a good time to review the processes their teams rely on every day.
